Question: Is Solar Thermal the right fit for your building?
1.) Solar electric (PV) has become more efficient and more affordable. Therefore, for small homes and for buildings with a high electric load it is the best fit.
2.) Where there is both a high electric load and a large hot water load then the obvious choice is a Hybrid solar panels
Hybrid solar panels are a relatively recent development. They work on the principle that the efficiency of solar electric panels decreases significantly as the panels heat up. So, by using the excess heat to heat water the efficiency of the solar electric panels increases by cooling them down. At the same time DHW is produced as a byproduct.
3.) Our target market is buildings with a high domestic hot water (DHW) load. These include old multifamily buildings that have existing old steam (some are as much as 100 years old) heating systems. These buildings have either tankless coils or in some cases separate gas fired boilers for DHW.
4.) Another good fit would be newer residential buildings that have PTACs for their residents and provide DHW for their residents. PTACs are basically heat pumps that provide AC in the summer and heating in the winter.
5.) Laundromats are also good candidates for solar thermal.
